After the Gyro Place, we headed over to this beer garden. It was packed, but it was so great and a pitcher of beer (a good kind, not like Miller Lite or something!) was only $14.00! It was a great experience and is the only original beer garden still open in NYC and it is right down the street!

Bohemian Hall and Beer Garden
Sunday, July 20th, 2008The Gyro Place, Ditmars Blvd
Sunday, July 20th, 2008So, I loved our Friday night date! We started at the Gyro Place where I had one of the best gryo’s I’ve ever had. :) I had the beef gyro and Michael had the Chicken Souvlaki sandwich which he was equally happy with. The fries there were great too!!! Imagine McDonald’s fries totally fresh and seasoned with fresh salt and pepper! It was great and the people there were so friendly. I will definitely be going back soon.
Sushi 101
Sunday, December 9th, 2007I have friends who always want to go here, but I’m not too hip on the joint. I tried the California rolls and noodle bowl, but I’m just not into it. I tried, 3 times, that’s enough for me. I want to put enjoyable calories in my body.
Anthony’s Caribbean Cafe
Sunday, December 9th, 2007Awesome decor! Great food. Feels like you are on an island. Very friendly staff. I loved it and the pulled pork Roti was to die for!
Meskerem Ethiopian Cuisine
Sunday, December 9th, 2007I went to eat Ethiopian about a month ago and I can’t say that I would go back. Part of the reason is because I am allergic to wheat and the pancake-like dough disks they bring out to scoop up the food are totally wheat based. The veggies were okay if you like curry, but the lamb was dry and overcooked. Been there, done that.
Seder Dinner
Wednesday, April 18th, 2007Well, for the first time in my life, I attended a Jewish passover meal at my friend Michele’s house. It was so interesting. Even though she didn’t do the whole ritual with all the prayers and songs and blessings over certain foods, I learned so much from her. I was also very impressed with her ability to speak in Hebrew.
The meal consisted of unleavened bread, sweet potato pancakes, baked chicken, apple crisp, matzaball soup, and turkey meatballs and cabbage. It was great! Thanks Michele!
Pho Real (Vietnamese Cuisine)
Sunday, November 5th, 2006Last weekend we went out with some friends to eat Vietnamese food. We are all trying to expand our horizons with our food choices, so we have started a little something I am calling the International Food Club. You can track the culinary delights on this site as they are posted. It is our goal to try and get out to eat 2 times/month.
So, we started with Goi Cuon (Spring Rolls). They were really, really fresh and were served with a peanut hoisin sauce.
Then, we moved onto the main dish. I ordered Hu Tieu. This is a chicken noodle soup compination in which you choose from 5 types of noodes (I got thin egg noodles.) and 6 types of meat. I avoided ordering the Ca Vien or fishballs, and opted for BBQ pork, chicken, and shrimp.
Others in our party ordered the fried quail (It reminded me of pigeon.) and Com Chien, or fried rice. Nicole went out on a limb and ordered the Pan Fried Egg Crepes. These were like very, very thin omelets filled with bean spouts, shrimp, chicken, and onions. It was served with nuoc mam dipping sauce that was out of this world.
All in all, this was a great experience. I highly recommend Vietnamese food. Visit Pho Real’s site.
